Watch out for charging problems! : Samsung Solstice A887 Unlocked Phone with Touch Screen, 3G Support, 2MP Camera and GPS - No Warranty - Black

Samsung Solstice is a touch screen phone that tries to make leaps towards features of a smart phone. In summary, the Solstice is a slim, dependable, and easy to use phone.

My thoughts:

- I like the touchscreen. It's generally very reactive, just off by a millimeter or so sometimes. Very responsive and becomes second nature after a while.

- The main screen lets you put your favorite apps on a bar that acts like the taskbar of a PC. You can also drag the app icon onto the background for ease of access. The charge meter, network indicator, and time are all generally lit well and easy to read.

- On idle mode, it's difficult to pocket dial and mistouch something, as long as you lock the phone each time. It's very simple to use and becomes an easy habit after a while. Almost every phone has that option. If you don't lock it, then it's your fault, not the phone.

- Design is very nice, actually. The back button is the center on the bottom, with the dial and end call buttons on the left and right ,respectively. The lock and unlock button is subtly placed on the top right, which is very convenient. On the left side of the phone, there's the volume control, which also is slim enough that you wouldn't accidentally bump it. The battery charger and usb slot has a cover that is attached to the phone, preventing any dust or debris from damaging the phone.

- Camera is fairly good. 2 megapixels is enough and the pictures are generally clear.

- Call quality is fair. It's certainly not optimal, as you may get some bad signal sometimes. However, more often than not you'll have a good experience. A caution though, is that the phone can become obscenely hot after talking, even for as little as 10 minutes. I'd recommend a bluetooth or headset.

- I like the ease of connectivity between this phone and PC. You'll need a USB chord, and I recommend getting the Oriongadgets Sync & Charge USB Cable for Samsung Solstice A887 (Black), or any compatible chord. It's a simple drag and drop into this phone's folder. I've easily uploaded songs and pictures.

- The texting interface is solid and generally responsive. You may have some typos, but with some careful practice, it's fairly easy. Everything has a learning curve, so give it some time! However, you may only text up to 7 different contacts on a text message.

Some counter arguments against existing reviews:

- A reviewer said that the battery life was horrible. Not for me, and others. Me and other Samsung Solstice users have no issue with the battery charging. On estimate, I'd say a fully charged phone can last up to 3-4 hours of talk time. The battery charging is good, but the battery life is definitely sub-par. I'm able to charge every couple days, so it's not that bad.

- Bluetooth connectivity is a breeze. After some simple instructions, you'll be connected in no time. My Samsung WEP460 Bluetooth Headset [Retail Packaging] works perfectly with this phone.

Overall, a solid phone that is capable as an all-purpose daily phone and tries to have features of a smart phone. Also, as a word of caution, it seems that the not so favorable reviewers of this phone just simply had a bad luck experience with this phone. I'm sorry to hear that, but there are plenty of happy Samsung Solstice owners like me, my brother, and several friends, but they just haven't expressed their satisfaction here on Amazon. The people whom had bad experiences just seem to scream louder. Anyways, don't let that prevent you from buying this phone. Highly recommended phone.

Browser button will eat away your minutes : Samsung T301G Prepaid Phone (Tracfone)

My wife and I each have one of this model Tracfone. Neither has been a problem with outgoing or incoming calls. No dropped calls. Voice quality has been clear and natural sounding. We haven't yet found any areas where the phone won't work, and this covers New England to Oregon. Those are the "pros." The following are the "cons," along with some physical features we would like to see improved:

- One of my biggest cons is the fact that the browser key is fixed and cannot be changed or disabled. The prompt that gets you into this limited browser can be easily activated and cost you fractions of minutes.

- I carry my T301G sideways in a belt holder. I have occasionally missed a call when extracting the phone and quickly pressing the "off" button by mistake. This won't shut the phone off, but it will cancel the incoming call.

- The little, raised line under the display is used to slide the phone open. This line is too small and and just about useless to use. A rubber, or ribbed area on the side of the phone would be much more useful to slide the phone up. I find the process to be a "two thumbs" operation if you don't want to press on the LED display all the time - or activate one of the soft keys which are much too close.

- My previous Tracfone was a "clamshell" V176. This has a rubber feel to the phone, and I never thought I might drop the thing because of a slick, or slippery exterior. I wish the T301G was made from the same material - although I have not yet dropped this phone.

- The four soft keys can be programmed for whatever you want. I have found that assigning your "contact list," messages, list of incoming calls and phone info (minutes and time left) works best for me. The keys themselves, however, are still too small. The "incoming calls" one is needed for when I mistakenly disconnect a call as mentioned above.

- I found the phone information that constantly scrolls across the screen to be distracting and irritating. I was able to shut this function off through the menu though. The press of one of the soft keys now tells me this information.

The above "cons" are not a deal breaker for me. Life with this phone would be just a little easier if they were addressed.

Some other thoughts:

- I have never had trouble adding minutes to either phone. I do it over the internet. All they want is your phone number (as long as the phone is registered with Tracfone - easy to do). You purchase the minutes/time and they appear on the phone almost immediately. Keep the phone "on" while doing this.

- My V176 lasted almost six years with no problems until the last two weeks of it's life. If I can get this same performance from the T301G, then (for the price)I think it will be worth it.

- I know it would make the phone a bit larger, but I wish the soft keys, menu and browser keys, and key pad itself were a little larger. Less room for error and more comfortable to use.

- I have the phone set to answer (or call) when the slide is used. I don't think the browser will activate, by accident, when the phone is closed, because it's locked then.

(Edit on the above - If the phone is "on," then the browser will activate even when the phone closed (locked). This "con" continues to grow larger)

Not a great camera, but it will do in a pinch.

The volume control is on the side of the phone. Ascending from 1 thru 7. One press below 1 puts the phone on vibrate. Easy.

All-in-all, this is a nice little phone, for the price, and the fact that no contracts are involved. Much less expensive to operate than than most any other phone. It would, (at least for me) be the perfect little phone if the above "cons" could be ironed out.

The phone is excellent. Depending on cell coverage area nearby you, this phone gets adequate service. The only qoute I have is with the internet it doesn't surely work right and it keeps canceling the web2go. But wide it's a decent phone to use as prepaid.

High ability video and good goods invent : Logitech HDTV Widescreen Video Cam

The setup is in fact plug & play, and the video cam is detected by the Google Tv unit. The camera itself is very sleek and easy to mount, the Logitech Vid Hd software however is very bare and confusing.. It took me a while to form out who i could call and how to even turn my profile picture.. There is no way to hunt or automatically import your friends from other web services such as Facebook or Gmail, only request them one-by-one via email.. The video ability varies depending on the connection, and for those who do not have a high resolution webcam, the software failed to stream the video feeds (only audio), so it became a one-way video chat session.. Until adequate users have the hardware and software, i dont' see the point in investing in $150 hardware where you can video chat for free on skype or google voice.

Best netflix streaming taste among other four similarly priced devices. : LG BD550 Network Blu-ray Disc Player

I purchased this player after reading the inevitable reviews and I didn't pay attention to the negative reviews that talked about skipping and freezing. Unfortunately, the negative reviews are correct. I tried to play 4 distinct blu-ray movies and all of them skipped or froze completely. Two of the movies were brand new and never used. I downloaded the latest software, changed all of the settings and it still skipped or froze. I regularly do not write reviews but I was so irritated that a enterprise would make such a lemon. I also have a PlayStation 3 in a distinct room and I have never once had it skip or ice on me. If you are finding at purchasing this goods I would propose that you do a search online and see how many citizen are having the same issue with this player.
